How We Actually Started

Back in early 2021, I was consulting for mid-sized companies across Metro Manila and kept seeing the same problem. Finance teams had smart people but were using Excel like it was 2010. Their models broke constantly, took forever to build, and nobody could explain the assumptions.

The breaking point came during a budget review meeting where a VP spent 30 minutes trying to change one scenario in their forecast model. The whole thing crashed. Everyone just sat there, frustrated but resigned to this being "normal."

That night, I called my colleague Solara and said "We need to teach people how to actually build financial models that work." Three months later, we had our first cohort of 12 students.

What surprised us wasn't just how eager people were to learn better techniques. It was how quickly they could apply advanced concepts when someone explained them clearly and showed real examples.
